We will be generating new evidence about the prevalence, costs, and impact of dementia in low and middle-income countries (LMICs). This will be achieved in three phases:

  1. We will complete a systematic review of existing literature on the prevalence of dementia for the seven STRiDE countries and review existing evidence on impact and costs of dementia.

  2. We will search, screen, critically appraise and test a series of instruments for data collection in seven STRiDE countries. We will compare psychometric properties of instruments where there are competing candidates.

  3. We will select (based on paucity or absence of data and feasibility) at least two countries as demonstration sites and conduct generalizable epidemiologically valid population based studies of dementia prevalence and costs.
